Feel Comfortable Right From The Start
Follow these simple steps to make settling into your new home more comfortable and less stressful. As you incorporate aspects of your personality and style into your new living space, it will feel like home in no time.
- Choose a community that makes you feel at home. When touring different communities, take note of how friendly the staff and residents are, as well as how they interact with one another. If you feel warmly welcomed and relaxed, you’ll know it’s a good fit.
- Know community guidelines ahead of time. Once you’ve found the right community, an important first step is to research any rules or guidelines it has regarding moving into its residences. This way, you’ll know about any restrictions up front before you or your loved one gets settled.
- Choose what furniture to bring based on layout and square footage. Using our floor plans, you can measure furniture and decide which pieces will best fit in your new space. You can also determine if any new furniture will be needed upon move-in.
- Reflect your personality in your décor. You may decide to bring familiar items from your former home or instead pick a new theme or design – whatever makes you feel at ease. Either way, be careful not to over clutter. You’ll likely need to cut back on decorative pieces while incorporating your personal style and décor.
- Make it personal with photos and other keepsakes. Find places for special items that evoke fond memories and make your apartment truly special. By displaying photos of family, friends and memorable events, you’ll not only enjoy seeing their familiar faces but also be able to share your life experiences with those who visit.
- Find opportunities to make new connections. After you or your loved one has moved in, it’s time to enjoy all the social opportunities that come with retirement living. By dining in common areas with other residents, participating in community activities and visiting with neighbors, you’ll begin to find your way and become more comfortable. At The Crossings at North River, everyone is so friendly and genuinely looks forward to getting to know new residents.
- Stay in touch. As you begin to meet new people at your community, it’s important to remain connected to friends and family outside of your new home. The people we love are what truly create a “home,” so be sure to welcome visitors for a tour of the community. This is an excellent opportunity to show them around the community and introduce them to your new friends and neighbors.
- Create new memories. Once you acclimate to your new community, you’ll make many new memories and share experiences with friends. You may create new décor in art class, enjoy fitness opportunities, or discover a new hobby or interest. The more involved you become at your new home, the more at home you will feel.
The team at The Crossings is always here to do whatever it takes to help you feel welcomed and comfortable. Once you’ve put these tips into action, it will only be a matter of time until living in your new, active, independent community feels just like home.
